This is a big one: Kyle-Hosman/xdj-az-mods is the first public XDJ-AZ root/jailbreak, with a proper mod loader and desktop patching tool rather than just a one-off proof of concept.
The initial release already includes:
- 4-part stems — Vocal, Melody, Bass and Drums mapped to the pads
- 60 FPS waveforms instead of the stock 30 FPS cap
- Drum Roll sampler on the X-PAD
- Custom pad colors
- An on-device Mod Menu inside the SOURCE list
- Optional SSH root access for development
The stems are pre-rendered on the computer rather than separated in realtime, but once loaded they run through the AZ’s native audio path, so features like key shift, master tempo, scratching and slip still work normally. GitHub
The install is also pretty clever: you patch the official AZ 1.30 firmware once to add the loader, then the actual mods live on the USB stick. Boot without the modded stick and the unit runs stock again. The project doesn’t redistribute Pioneer/AlphaTheta firmware—you provide the original updater yourself.
The developer also plans to publish the mod sources, emulator and research notes, and eventually wants the built-in mod menu to act like a Cydia-style manager for community AZ mods.
